SmartCars take over Lombardy St.
By Susan Wilson
Anyone who has ever visited or lived in San Francisco knows Lombardy St. It is said to be the curviest street in the world and as one who has driven down it, I believe it. Last Sunday 133 Smart for Two SmartCars lined the curviest part.
For those of you who only deal in SUVs or vans, SmartCars are among the smallest vehicles in America. They are shorter than Mini-Coopers and get 34 to 40 mpg. They are reported to be fun to drive and have become popular all over the United States.
SmartCar drivers love their cars and hold Meetups like the Lombardy St. gathering. One such gathering is scheduled here in North Carolina on August 30, 2008 up at Shatley Springs close to the Tennessee and Virginia borders.
Whatever the event, you can expect there to be SmartCars attending in droves. It seems that the cars are bit like Lemmings in that like to follow each other in packs. Hence the 133 SmartCars lining Lombardy on August 17th!
Me, I’ll stick with my 2005 Prius. I get between 39 and 50 mpg with more leg room, head room and storage space. Of course it did cost about $10,000 more than a SmartCar but then, I am getting a bit more room.
