For the Horticulturalist: a USB garden

By Susan Wilson

For the Horticulturalist: a USB garden Of all of the USB items on the market, this would be in my top five not to buy, but my father in law would love it.  A USB garden would fit into his jungle of a home quite nicely and would brighten up his computer room.  If the plant were fake I might consider it.

What baffles me the most about this little computer add on, is that the plant is enclosed in plastic casing.  Now I know my knowledge of plants is marginal but don’t plants need air to grow?  As I recall plastic doesn’t breathe real well.

On top of that it still needs watering.  Yep, watering a plant near my computer would be a sure recipe for disaster.  Electronic gadgets are not supposed to be watered!  That is why there are all those warnings about not eating or drinking around your computer.

Then there is the issue of plant growth.  Once the little planted seeds get going, there is liable to be a need to repot the plant at some point when it outgrows the little plastic thingy it is in.

Honestly, if I were going to invest in plants, I would pop for an Aerogrow kitchen garden.  Plants should be somewhere other than your computer and at least able to get some air.
