A flaming wheelchair is the height of paranoia
By Susan Wilson
Attaching a flame thrower to a homemade wheelchair seems that height of paranoia. I would worry every time I saw this thing coming if I had accidentally irritated someone or if wheelchair rage had finally taken over.
Lance Greenhouse created this aggressive wheelchair from a variety of parts, including, yes, a functional flame thrower. This thing looks more like a new military vehicle than a wheelchair.
This all terrain vehicle was assembled from golf cart parts and a marine rescue helicopter seat. The wheelchair will achieve 22mph which should confine the driver to his/her neighborhood, which is hopefully nowhere near me. There are apparently several ways of steering the thing so confusing one of the steering mechanisms with the flame thrower might actually happen.
This looks like the kind of machine a survivalist like the couple in the movie Tremors would use. They were the couple with the concrete bunker full of guns. Excessive power but great for the paranoid.
The maker, Lance Greenhouse, put it this way,"It was made for the disabled person looking for something a little different, why drive something that looks like a medical device when you can drive something lethal?" Yiieee!
Lethal is hopefully not something that most people looking for a different type of wheelchair would be interested in! Personally, the iBot would be the wheelchair of choice for me. Especially since it not only is “all terrain” but also allows the user to rise to eye level.
Keep the flamethrower! Give me the iBot!
