An Illinois shaped cornflake? - Who bids on stupid eBay auctions?

An Illinois shaped cornflake? - Who bids on stupid eBay auctions?Ever since eBay started, there has been a craze for auctioning some ludicrous items. Whether it be a unit of currency for more than it's worth, or some object of food which is said to resemble something else, they crop up all the time. But who actually bids, and then maybe even buys these items?

In February, we saw a pretzel which was said to resemble the Virgin Mary getting bid up to a preposterously high amount of money. This was besides the fact that at the end of the day it was just a pretzel, and that it didn't look a bit like the Virgin Mary.

Now, Yahoo! News are reporting the auction of a cornflake which looks like the state of Illinois. Oh God, make the madness stop already!

Two sisters from Virginia are so convinced that their cornflake resembles the state of Illinois, that they put it on eBay for all and sundry to bid on.

eBay initially pulled the auction, as food is not allowed for sale on the site, but not content to idly sit by and watch their great money making scheme be wrecked, the girls ingeniously put a coupon redeemable for it up for sale, instead of the cereal itself.

Bidding is currently at $1,325, and rising.

I don't blame the McIntire sisters for trying a make a fast buck, but who the hell is bidding that sort of money for what is a piece of breakfast cereal?

I had cornflakes myself this morning, and could easily have eaten numerous pieces which looked slightly like US states, or historical figures, but no-one offered me any money for them.

Most of the bids are obviously are obviously going to be fake, and if someone was actually dumb (or rich) enough to offer that kind of money for it then they deserve the ridicule, and piece of crap they'll end up with.

Seriously folks, eBay is on the way down as it is, don't make matters worse by bidding on pieces of erroneous rubbish and making every genuine buyer and seller on the site look a fool.
